With only two games on Wednesday's NHL slate, options in the player pool may be a bit limited. That said, it's even more important to lock the right players into your lineup, so give these guys a look…
Goalie
Jake Allen, STL vs CGY $8,900: Allen comes into a home matchup against the Flames, who are playing in their second game in as many nights. He's got four wins on the year and is seeing over 32 shots per game.
Center
Alexander Wennberg, CBJ vs BUF $5,900: The Blue Jackets haven't played since Saturday, giving them a chance to regroup after back-to-back losses. One of the players that appeared to be in need of a re-charge is Wennberg, as he was a minus-3 in the Jackets' previous two games and has seen a ton of ice time overall. The matchup is ideal against the Sabres, who have been lacking defensively in allowing 3.89 goals per game — third most in the league.
Brayden Schenn, STL vs CAL $6,200: Schenn has been moved up to the top line centering Vladimir Tarasenko and Jaden Schwartz. His upside is boosted a bit, as he also sees time on the top power-play unit. Schenn is averaging over three shots per game and Calgary is playing their second road game in as many nights.
Wing
Micheal Ferland, CAL at STL $4,300: The Flames have been mixing and matching at the wing position on the top line with Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau, and Ferland is penciled into that spot as of now. He hasn't produced much yet this season with just one goal, but his salary allows you to spend up around him.
Oliver Bjorkstrand, CBJ vs BUF $4,100: Bjorkstrand is slotted in on the second line with Wennberg and Boone Jenner and has been playing well with four points (one goal, four assists) in eight games. Bjorkstrand hasn't been shooting the puck as much as we'd like to see, but he's still a threat and sees time on the power play.
Sam Reinhart, BUF at CBJ $4,100: Reinhart has been skating well of late and getting shots to the net but hasn't scored much. His fortunes could turn in a matchup that should see scoring plenty of opportunities on both sides. Seeing time on the second line and top power-play unit, Reinhart is a nice value option.
Defense
T.J. Brodie, CGY at STL $4,800: Brodie has been one of the more solid value defense options over the last year or so and is in play once again Wednesday. Heading into Tuesday, Brodie had two goals and six assists in eight games. He's averaged over two shots on goal per game skating on the second defense pairing and top power-play unit. Averaging nearly 25 minutes of ice time, Brodie offers a nice floor at a good value.
Seth Jones, CBJ vs BUF $5,100: Jones is a nice pivot off the more expensive Zach Werenski on the Columbus blue line. He's averaging nearly three shots on goal per game as an offensive-minded defenseman and has a goal and four assists in eight games. I touched on the Sabres' struggles defensively and that trickles down to their performance against blueliners, as they are allowing the ninth most fantasy points to the position.
