Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

The NHL returns from the All-Star break Tuesday with a full 12-game slate. Here are some of the best values for your virtual dollar to consider.

Goalie

Robin Lehner, BUF vs. NJ ($24)

Don't look now, but Lehner has recorded shutouts in two straight starts, facing a total of 63 shots over that span. Granted, he pulled off both of those feats against two of the coldest offenses in the league -- Edmonton and Vancouver -- but Tuesday he'll get to face another one, as the Devils are averaging just 2.30 goals per game in January. Considering Lehner's .925 save percentage at home, you can leverage his extremely low price Tuesday into possible success.

Goalie to Avoid

Devan Dubnyk, MIN @ CLS ($35)

Dubnyk has been awful in road games this season, posting a .898 save percentage and 3.40 GAA to go with a 6-8-0 record in games played away from Minnesota. The Blue Jackets' offense hasn't played up to snuff recently, but they'll likely be looking to replicate their performance from the last time they faced Dubnyk when they potted five goals in an overtime victory on Oct. 14. The 31-year-old goalie is too inconsistent to risk picking here.

Center

Mathew Barzal, NYI vs. FLA ($19)

Despite Barzal's stupendous January that has seen him record 15 points in 11 games, including an assist in each of his last four, the rookie's low daily price makes him an affordable and effective option Tuesday. The British Columbia native is averaging 3:13 of ice time with the man advantage and will look to feast on a Florida team that kills off just 79.3 percent of its penalties and is allowing 4.00 goals per game in January.

Center to Avoid

Ryan Getzlaf, ANH @ BOS ($21)

In the last six games, Getzlaf has done decently well for himself, recording six points over that stretch, but he's also had his fair share of struggles over that time as well -- the Ducks' captain shows a minus-3 rating over that time and saw just 14:20 of ice time in a Jan. 23 meeting with the Rangers. That type of defensive and overall inconsistency makes him a dicey pick at the current price point.

Wings

Evgenii Dadonov, FLA @ NYI ($17)

Prior to a rough two-game stretch before the All-Star break, Dadonov had posted three goals, eight points, and 22 shots on goal in six games while averaging 2:22 of power-play ice time. On the season, the KHL import has thrived with the man advantage, posting nine of his 29 points in those situations, and will have a chance to improve those numbers Tuesday against a poor New York penalty-killing unit that succeeds just 73.5 percent of the time.

Alexander Steen, STL vs. MON ($17)

Another solid mid-to-low-priced option Tuesday, Steen has put together a really nice stretch of offense recently, posting six goals on 27.3 percent shooting and 10 points in his last nine contests. The veteran winger plays a prominent roll with the first power-play unit and will look to take advantage of a Montreal team that is averaging 3.30 goals allowed per game in January and kills off just 78.3 percent of its penalties on the season.

Wings to Avoid

Patrik Laine, WPG vs. TB ($26)

One of the main traits you're looking for when constructing a daily lineup is consistency and Laine just hasn't had it of late -- in his last eight games, the Finnish winger has posted a goal in four separate games, but has no assists over that span. This boom-or-bust type of production just will not do at the current price tag and against a Lightning team that is stellar on both ends of the ice.

Evander Kane, BUF vs. NJ ($22)

The last nine games have been absolutely abysmal for Kane, as he shows just one assist and a minus-2 rating. Perhaps more troubling is the fact that the 26-year-old is shooting well within the range of his career shooting percentage at an 8.4 percent clip, so his struggles really can't be blamed on bad luck. He's also only seeing time with the second power-play unit at this point, so he isn't worth the coin Tuesday.

Defensemen

Marc-Edouard Vlasic, SJ @ PIT ($18)

Especially while living in the shadow of Brent Burns, Vlasic is not usually known as a scorer, but really found an offensive rhythm heading into the All-Star break -- the veteran d-man scored four times on his way to nine points in the eight games prior to the recess. Vlasic, an excellent shot blocker, holds extra appeal Tuesday going against a Pittsburgh squad that fires a league-high 34.6 shots on goal per game.

Ryan Suter, MIN @ CLS ($17)

Though his current daily price isn't reflecting it, Suter has been on an offensive tear in recent weeks, maintaining a point-per-game pace over his last eight contests. The Madison, Wisconsin native has been a staple of the Minnesota power play for many years, and this year he has scored 37.5 percent of his points with the man advantage. Assuming he can contain a Columbus attack that is averaging 1.78 goals per game in January, expect great things Tuesday.

Defensemen to Avoid

Kris Letang, PIT vs. SJ ($25)

Letang's pricing ties him for fourth-highest on the list Tuesday, and that's an exorbitant amount to pay considering his meager production lately -- the Montreal native logged just one assist, an even rating, and just 11 blocked shots in the seven contests prior to the All-Star break. Considering San Jose's defensive fortitude and recent offensive success, things could go from bad to worse for the Penguins' long-time alternate captain Tuesday.

Alec Martinez, LA @ DAL ($19)

Martinez's offensive woes have been very pronounced, as the defenseman has just three assists in his last 13 games, but what's more troubling is the problems he has faced in the defensive end of the ice -- over that same span, the Michigan native shows a minus-9 rating. Against the explosive offensive team in Dallas, which has recorded 3.30 goals per game in January, that rating could continue to plummet.
