Sherman's first lap around the Nextel Cup circuit has been a bumpy ride. Sherman said that he has left BAM Racing's Nextel Cup team to form his own team, Sherman Racing. Sherman's team will spend the rest of the 2006 season on the ARCA RE/MAX Series circuit, with plans to try to qualify for Nextel Cup races July 9 in Chicago and November 12 near Phoenix, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Brett Sherman: Leaves BAM Racing
Supposedly Sherman has left the BAM Racing team after testing the first session at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Tuesday, jayski.com reports. No word on his plans, if Serta will stay as a sponsor, but this week the No. 49 Dodge has Fire Dex as the sponsor of the car and Mike Wallace will race at Richmond.

Sherman and the BAM Racing team are hoping that history will repeat itself this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway for the Subway Fresh 500. Sherman has enjoyed success at the “Jewel of the Desert” in the Busch Series, and intends to draw upon those experiences in his first Nextel Cup Series race at the one-mile oval, brentsherman.com reports.
