Escalona was among the players suspended 50 games Monday for his connection to the Biogenesis clinic, FOX Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Excalona's name was a bit of a surprise, considering he had not previously been mentioned as tied to the scandal. The 28-year-old lefty made just 12 appearances at Double-A Corpus Christi in 2013, notching one save, a 1-2 record, 6.60 ERA, 2.067 WHIP, and 9:6 K:BB ratio in 15 innings.

Escalona sat out all of the 2012 season as he rehabbed from Tommy John surgery. His low-90s fastball is nothing to write home about, but he maintains an ability to miss bats, striking out 25 in 27.2 innings in 2011. He's expected to return at some point in 2013, and was re-signed by the Astros with a minor league deal in November.
In his first big league action since 2009, Escalona did all right, finishing the season 2-1 with a 2.93 ERA and 1.265 WHIP. His low-90s fastball is nothing to write home about, but he maintains an ability to miss bats, striking out 25 in 27.2 innings last season. He should record more holds than last year, but he is not likely to be the first in line for saves even with the vacancy at closer following the decision to trade Mark Melancon to Boston.
Escalona failed to take a major step forward last season. He posted a nice K/9IP ratio at Double-A last season, but he was also old for the level and he gave up too many free passes. He was traded to Houston in January and has a better shot of winning a lefty specialist role in the bullpen. However, he's is a fringe relief prospect at best and should not be on fantasy radars.
Escalona made his major league debut last season and spent time shuttling between the minors and the majors. Escalona is not an overpowering pitcher but he does have a good slider that is tough on lefties. The Phillies might not be willing to turn to him as one of their lefty relievers to start the season, but Escalona should see time in the majors this year. Since he will likely be pitching in a situational role, there isn't a lot to like from a fantasy perspective.
