April 27, 2016
The Diamondbacks have signed Brewer to a minor league deal and he played in an extended spring training game on Wednesday, Jack Magruder of Fanragsports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brewer was a 12th-round draft pick of Arizona's in 2009 and appeared in four games for the Diamondbacks in 2013. He's also spent time in the Cleveland and Seattle organizations the past two years. Brewer missed significant time with an elbow injury in 2015 and didn't play above Double-A, so he will likely need some seasoning in the minor leagues before any chance of a MLB call-up.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2015
2014
Brewer was demoted from Triple-A to Double-A in June, where he dominated for a seven-start stretch before returning to the Pacific Coast League. The Diamondbacks didn't give him a look in September when rosters expanded, which foreshadowed an offseason trade to the Indians. Turning 27 in April, he's an organizational soldier at this point, but it remains to be seen if the Tribe will attempt to move him to the bullpen and make him a part of their plans at the big league level, or if he'll continue to start in the minors. Brewer fared much better after the All-Star break at Reno, finishing with a 49:12 K:BB over 61.2 innings in his last 10 starts.
Brewer, a Phoenix-area native, was a positive story for Arizona in 2013. The June call-up worked six innings for the Diamondbacks, allowing just two runs, while striking out five and walking one. He is part of the glut of young pitching that should compete in the spring for a back-end rotation spot, but it's also possible that Brewer will reprise a relief role and receive a longer stint with the big club this season.
