The Diamondbacks are interested in adding Easley as the right-handed half of a platoon at second base, the East Valley Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The team apparently has already offered a one-year deal to Ramon Vazquez to function as the left-handed half of that platoon.

Easley, who will be 39 this season, was highly productive at second base filling in for Luis Castillo. But his injury susceptibility, combined with the Mets' desire to sign a bona fide backup shortstop, resulted in their decision to let him walk as a free agent. Look for Easley to serve a similar reserve role to the one he filled the past few years for the Mets and be a solid middle infield option in AL/NL-only leagues.
Easley, who batted .280 with 10 home runs and 26 RBI in only 76 games for the Mets in 2007, saw major playing time at second base in May when Jose Valentin went down with injury. After returning to utility status, he completely tore three ankle ligaments and partially tore two others running to second base on a wild pitch in August. Easley expects to be ready for spring, and after signing a one-year, $950K deal with the Mets, he'll again be used as a right-handed pinch-hitter and spot starter in the infield and corner outfield spots, especially against left-handed pitching.
After a decent year in a utility infield role for the Marlins, Easley signed with Arizona in the offseason. He'll be a bat off the bench and back up Craig Counsell and Alex Cintron in the middle infield; given his new hitter-friendly park, that role could be useful in deep NL-only leagues. Easley found some of his old power stroke last year and proved to have some defensive versatility, making him a surprisingly useful guy to have on the bench. The Marlins will bring him back for, hopefully, more of the same.
Average and slugging dropped for the fourth consecutive year, and at 33, it's hard to expect a major comeback for Easley. The fence adjustment figures to help some, but it's a little surprising the Tigers aren't trying harder to improve on this guy at second base. Easley used to be good for 10-15 stolen bases per year, but he was just 1-for-4 on stolen-base attempts last season. Unless you know something we don't, avoid bidding on him.
