Ritchie fought his way back from injury in 2004, but he was ineffective and Tampa Bay let him go in the offseason.
Ritchie missed almost all of 2003 after having shoulder surgery. He may be able to find a team willing to give him a shot in spring training, but it's doubtful he will make a team, following two years of struggles and the need for continued rehab.
Ritchie was supposed to be veteran glue that held together a young rotation as they shocked the world and battled for a division title. That weird stand-up motorized scooter thing was also supposed to revolutionize the way people get around. Wonder if Kenny Williams invested in that too? Ritchie started strong in 2002, but it all quickly fell apart, and his season became positively Jaime Navarro-esque before Ritchie was shut down with shoulder soreness. Given the price they paid for him (including Kip Wells and Josh Fogg) the Sox will probably give him another chance, but you should think long and hard before you do the same.
