Jimenez missed most of the first month of 2004 with a strained left side, then was very quickly shelled out of the Indians closer role. He was outrighted to Triple-A, but only pitched three innings there. Jimenez is a sinker-slider type reliever who could resurface in a middle relief role with the right team once he is again healthy. He's comparable to Ramiro Mendoza.
Jimenez, the Rockies' all-time franchise save leader, will try to rebound after a sub-par year and will serve as a setup man in the Indians bullpen and could challenge for the closer role at some point.
This is one closer that might actually be underrated. He has kept his ERA below 4.00 two of the past three seasons, and walked just 11 batters in 73 1/3 IP in 2002. We'd like his strikeout rate to be higher, but everything else here indicates that if he were to pitch elsewhere, he could be among the elite closers in the league.
