$The Mets signed Armas to a minor-league deal and invited him to spring training in January of 2009. Released in March 2009.

Armas will join the Triple-A Gwinnett rotation in place of Jerome Gamble, the Gwinnett Daily Post reports.
ANALYSIS
He signed a minor league contract with the Braves after he was released by the Mets in spring training. He made one start for Double-A Mississippi before being called up to Triple-A. It's unlikely he'll get called up to the majors with the depth in the Triple-A rotation, however.

Armas pitched more innings than he had since 2002, while improving his BB and K rates from last year. If his injury history weren't quite so extensive, and his remaining stuff just a little bit better, he might have been able to cash in on the pitching feeding frenzy that made Gil Meche a wealthy man. As it is, he'll have to settle for being someone's third or fourth choice to fill out the back of their rotation.
Part of the haul from the Pedro Martinez trade back in the day, Armas hasn't been able to stay healthy. He came back last season from a 2004 shoulder problem but then spent time on the DL for a groin injury and another shoulder problem. When he did pitch, his 54/59 K/BB ratio shouldn't get anyone excited. He'll compete for a spot in the rotation this spring.
Armas has pitched just 103 innings over the last two years due to a series of shoulder problems. The ex-Expos are still counting on him to fill a rotation spot, but you'd be crazy to.
Armas roared out of the gate in April before being felled by a slightly torn labrum. With Javy Vazquez gone, the Expos desperately need him to return to 100%, but we're not going to hold our breaths.
Set a career high in wins, but the rest of his numbers regressed from 2001. Will be 25 next season, so he may not be done with the growing pains, but a bounce-back season isn't an unreasonable expectation.
