2016 Fantasy Outlook
Although old for his level (21), Evans thrived at short-season State College after being drafted by the Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2015 first-year player draft, striking out six batters for every one he walked in 49.2 innings. Only six of his 16 appearances came as a starter, and it's uncertain what kind of role he will take on in 2016, possibly following a move up to High-A to begin the year. While he could be fast-tracked if moved to the bullpen full time, the Cardinals may very well want to give the 6-foot-2, 215-pound lefty a longer look in the rotation before making any permanent decisions. Boding well for his chances of sticking as a starter for the time being, Evans turned in strong numbers against right-handed hitters while with State College, holding them to a 2.52 ERA and .233 batting average against.
