McKay was frustrated that he was not given a greater opportunity to win the back-up catching job over Einar Diaz. "I did such a good job last year with my catcher's ERA, my throw-out percentage, everything Tony asked me to do, I did," he said. "And I felt like coming in to camp here, I should have been the guy to beat out. As camp went on, I realized that I had to beat out a guy (Diaz)." This move pretty much cemented down that both Hector Luna and Abraham Nunez would make the team.

Yadier Molina is better defensively and can hit a little better, so McKay will fit somewhere between utility backup and Triple-A catcher.
