Eyre said he would be receptive to a return to the Phillies if the team was interested, CSNPhilly.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Eyre said no one from the Phillies has contacted him or his agent to this point. Eyre, who had offseason elbow surgery and then opted to retire, said he feels great and would need about three weeks of training before being ready to pitch. The Phillies are in search of a reliable lefthanded reliever with J.C. Romero struggling.

Eyre was very solid for the Phillies last season posting a 1.50 ERA in 30 innings. He missed time with elbow problems and had surgery over the winter to remove bone chips. At the time of publication, Eyre was said to be considering retirement or a return to the Phillies. The Phillies would like him back, but only at a reasonable price. Regardless of whether Eyre plays or retires, he has little to no value in fantasy leagues thanks to his role as a lefty specialist.
Eyre, who struggled in his brief use with the Cubs in 2008, was a valuable contributor once joining the Phillies, who signed him to a one-year contract over the winter. Eyre was 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA and 18:3 K:BB ratio in 14.1 innings after joining the Philadelphia in August and will continue his lefty-specialist role out of the bullpen.
The Cubs' 36-year-old bullpen-lefty-in-chief will be back again after a horrendous 2007 - 1.796 WHIP and a G/F ratio of less than 1.0. Eyre has virtually no chance to close, and his $3 million-plus salary is probably the only thing keeping him from having to earn his roster spot.
Eyre struck out a whopping 73 batters in just 61 innings last season, but that's so much better than his career rate we're inclined to believe it was a fluke. He's the Cubs left-handed setup man, but allows too many fly balls and walks to be reliable if the strikeout rate regresses to the mean.
Guessing what your run-of-the-mill middle reliever will do in his next 75 innings is a fool's errand. Eyre won't get saves or pitch enough to impact other categories, and has considerable implosion potential. Let him burn the Cubs, not you.
Eyre struggled with back problems in 2004, but managed to appear in 83 games in middle relief. He's a typical middle reliever, with a 4.83 career ERA, and will likely produce similar numbers this season.
Lefty specialist who has walked too many batters to be much of a fantasy factor in 2004.
Eyre pitched well down the stretch (two earned runs in 11.1 innings) and in the playoffs as a bullpen lefty for the Giants, so our guess is that'll be his role to start the 2003 season. He could help you with ERA and WHIP, but he won't pitch a bunch of innings, and he'll likely get few win and zero save opportunities. A dollar play, and maybe not a bad one, in NL-only leagues.
