Avery signed a minor league deal with the Tigers on Saturday, Mlive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old lefty will give Detroit rotation depth in the minors. He went 6-12 with a 4.70 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 139.2 innings for Double-A Carolina last year.

"It's definitely been up and down for most of the guys who have been here all year," Avery said. "When we did things the way we were supposed to be doing them, the results were good. Then if we were tired or for whatever reason our stuff wasn't there, then we got hit around."
