Past Fantasy Outlooks
2006
2003
A chipped bone in Truby's left wrist during the spring kept him from the major league third base job he was promised. He was supposed to keep the job warm while rookie Mark Teahen learned in Triple-A. Truby returned by the first of May but the damage had already been done. Truby didn't have nearly the Triple-A season in 2005 as in 2004 but 42 extra-base hits in 396 AB could create more chances like the one he just missed out on.
In 2002, the Tigers wanted someone who could field at third base, and hit a little; Truby met the first criteria, but failed miserably with the second one. The puny average isn't surprising when you consider he walked just five times in 277 at-bats. He'll be the Devil Rays' insurance policy at third base in 2003 if Jared Sandberg isn't productive.
