Wise was having a decent season until he hit Pedro Lopez in the face during a game on July 25. After that game he lost all control and had a 10.45 ERA with seven walks in 10.1 IP. The Brewers non-tendered him as part of their bullpen overhaul, but the Mets inked him to a one-year deal and are hoping that he can overcome those problems in the offseason and be part of their bullpen in 2008.
Wise missed much of the 2006 season with an elbow injury that eventually required surgery. He pitched well while he was healthy, posting a 3.86 ERA in 44.1 innings, but wasn't as good as in 2005. The Brewers will see how he does this spring and would like to have him back in the bullpen for 2007.
Wise pitched well in 2005 until a strained oblique muscle derailed things. He'll be a part of the Milwaukee bullpen again in 2006.
Wise returned to baseball in 2004 after missing an entire season due to elbow surgery. He helped the Brewers out in long relief and started a few games for them. He'll be back in spring training fighting for a spot in the bullpen.
Wise was recalled or sent to Salt Lake City six times last season. 2003 could be a breakthrough year, as he showed that he could master Triple-A hitters.
