Closer Watch
San Francisco – Brian Wilson was rested Friday after notching a tenuous save on Thursday, giving up three hits and a run before finishing off the Rockies. While there's no closer controversy in San Francisco, The Bearded One has been much less effective since the Giants' championship run in 2010. Though Wilson strikes out about a batter an inning, his ERA climbed from 1.81 to 3.11 in 2011. Sergio Romo, Wilson's current setup man, was much more effective than Wilson last year, recording a 1.50 ERA and an eye-popping 70 strikeouts in 48 innings. As the season wears on, it wouldn't be shocking to see Romo receive a few opportunities to finish ball games.

Recommended Pickup
Tom Milone, SP, OAK – One of the prizes of the Gio Gonzalez deal, Milone stymied the Royals in front of what appeared to be three or four people at TheColiseum. The soft-tossing lefty's arsenal is predicated on pinpoint control, which he showed in surrendering only 20 walks in over 170 innings between Triple-A and Washington. Milone's line from his first start with Oakland belies a rare skill for a soft-tosser – he's a strikeout pitcher. Though he recorded no strikeouts against the Royals, Milone averaged about a strikeout per inning during his last two seasons. While he likely won't be able to replicate that K/9 rate with Oakland, Milone can at least be adequate in that category. Milone's fantasy value is most likely to reside in tidy ERA and WHIP numbers, with his historically high fly ball percentage mitigated by Oakland's spacious outfield. Facing a weak Mariners offense on Saturday, Milone is definitely worth a stream start; and while he is worthy of a roster spot in most AL-only leagues, don't add him just yet in mixed leagues. If he can build upon his performance against Kansas City, however, Milone may get fans to fill a few more seats in his subsequent starts.
