Yahoo DFS Basketball: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

There are only three games in the NBA on Tuesday, leaving you with limited options for your Yahoo entry. Let's exam some players to target and avoid to hopefully still cash in on the small slate.

GUARDS

De'Aaron Fox, SAC at DEN ($21): We might be witnessing the beginning of Fox's breakout season. He's been excellent through the first two games, averaging 20.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 1.3 steals. His 23.5 percent usage rate is almost identical to last year, but the key is he's averaging 35 minutes per game compared to 28 minutes per contest last season. If he keeps getting this type of minutes, he won't be priced this low for much longer.

Elfrid Payton, NO vs. LAC ($17): The early returns for Payton have been promising with him posting at least 28.2 Yahoo points in both of his games. He had at least six assists in both contests and should continue to get plenty of opportunities to contribute in that area playing with Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday, Nikola Mirotic and Julius Randle. The Pelicans have also played at the second-fastest pace (108.8 possessions per game) in the league.

Guard to Avoid

Jamal Murray, DEN vs. SAC ($25): Murray played through a left tibia contusion Sunday against the Warriors, which may have attributed to him shooting 0-for-9 from the field. He's listed as questionable for Tuesday, but he may not be completely healthy even if he does take the floor. Most of his contributions come in the scoring department, as well, making him a risky play at this price.

FORWARDS

Nikola Mirotic, NO vs. LAC ($32): The Pelicans gave Mirotic the starting nod over Randle and he has certainly done nothing to make them regret that decision. He has a stellar 29.5 percent usage rate, helping him average 33 points per contest. Add in his contributions on the boards and Mirotic has recorded at least 45.5 Yahoo points in both of his games. There's no way he continues to shoot 61 percent from the field, but he's still a great option based on his role in the offense.

Danilo Gallinari, LAC at NO ($21): There is no question that Gallinari can score in bunches. He entered this season having averaged at least 18.2 points in two of the last three years. The problem with Gallinari has been his ability to stay healthy. That's not an issue for him, at the moment, so it's not all that surprising that he's averaging 20.7 points per game. This has the makings of a high-scoring contest, leaving Gallinari with plenty of upside.

Forward to Avoid

Marvin Bagley, SAC at DEN ($21): Across his first three games of the season, Bagley has logged 12, 33 and 24 minutes, respectively. With that kind of inconsistency, it's hard to project what to expect from him in this contest. The Kings were inconsistent with their rotations last year, as well, so it might be best to avoid Bagley until we see how this situation unfolds further.

CENTERS

Anthony Davis, NO vs. LAC ($58): Davis was only needed to play 27 minutes in the Pelicans blowout win over the Kings on Friday, but he still finished the game with 25 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks. Even though the Pelicans have a lot of weapons around him, Davis has by far the highest ceiling of the group. If you're going to pay up for one player on this limited slate, Davis might be your man.

Montrezl Harrell, LAC at NO ($11): The Clippers don't exactly have the most clear cut center situation. Marcin Gortat is their starter, but Harrell and Boban Marjanovic have both had their moments serving as his primary backup. It was Harrell's turn to shine Sunday against the Rockets, finishing with 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks across 24 minutes. It wouldn't be surprising to see him play more minutes than both Gortat and Marjanovic in this game since he's better equipped to keep up with the Pelicans athletic front court, so he could be worth the risk in tournament play.

Center to Avoid

Willie-Cauley-Stein, SAC at DEN ($22): Cauley-Stein exploded for 46.4 Yahoo points in his first game of the year, but he has scored 28.9 Yahoo points or fewer in both games since. The difference was he played 38 minutes in the first game, but hasn't logged more than 26 minutes in either of the other two. He's going to have his hands full with Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets are a far superior team, so there is a chance this game could become a blowout.
