Yahoo DFS Basketball: Sunday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

There are only four games in the NBA on Sunday, three of which will make up the main slate on Yahoo. That leaves you with limited options to choose from, but it doesn't mean you still can't finish with a winning lineup. Here are some options to consider and avoid for the evening.

GUARDS
John Wall, WAS at LAC ($43):
The Wizards are off to a disappointing 1-4 start. Wall has generally played well, scoring at least 49.8 Yahoo points in three of five games. He's only shooting 13 percent from behind the arc, so he has some room for improvement in that area. Known as one of the best source of assists in the league, his 7.6 dimes per game would actually tie his previous career low. That number should be on the rise soon and he has a 28.4 percent usage rate, leaving him with a high floor Sunday.

Ricky Rubio, UTA at DAL ($21): Rubio has been horrid from the field, but he may have broken out of his slump Saturday against the Pelicans by shooting 8-for-14 from the field on his way to 28 points. His all-around excellent stat line helped him score 54.2 Yahoo points, which was more than his previous two games combined. While it will be hard for him to duplicate that number against the Mavericks, this could be a high-scoring game with the Mavericks playing at the 10th-fastest pace (103.4 possessions per game) in the league.

Guard to Avoid

Lou Williams, LAC vs. WAS ($22): The Clippers much improved depth at guard this year has capped Williams' production. He's averaging 26 minutes per contest, which is seven fewer than last season. Since he mostly generates his value from his scoring contributions, his reduced playing time has resulted in him scoring 25.7 Yahoo points or fewer in all five of his games. Rubio is a dollar cheaper and has a higher upside, so it might be best to avoid Williams.

FORWARDS
Tobias Harris, LAC vs. WAS ($30):
Harris has recorded a career-high 25.1 percent usage rate this season, helping him average a team-high 21.8 points per game. Not only has he been great offensively, but he's provided a big boost on the glass with 8.6 rebounds per contest. The Wizards play at the third-fastest pace (107.2), which could leave Harris with even more opportunities to stuff the stat sheet.

Kelly Oubre, WAS at LAC ($15): One of the players who has been a disappointment for the Wizards so far is Otto Porter. Due to his struggles, he's logged 25 minutes or fewer in a game three times already after averaging 32 minutes per contest last season. Add in the injury to Dwight Howard (back) forcing the Wizards to play small and Oubre has carved out significant playing time. While he hasn't always been consistent, he has scored at least 35.2 Yahoo points in two of his last three games. At this cheap price, he might be worth taking a chance on in tournament play.

Forward to Avoid
Trevor Ariza, PHO at OKC ($19):
Ariza played 34 minutes Saturday against the Grizzlies, but finished with only 15.3 Yahoo points. That marked the third time in the last four games that he has finished with that many points or fewer. He has a 16.4 percent usage rate and is shooting 34 percent from the field, which isn't exactly a recipe for success. With his limited upside, he's not an appealing option.

CENTERS

Rudy Gobert, UTA at DAL ($30): Gobert took full advantage of Anthony Davis (elbow) being sidelined Saturday, scoring 25 points to go along with 14 points and four rebounds. Gobert doesn't always score a ton, but he's recorded a double-double in all five games after averaging a double-double in both of the last two seasons. With at least 34.9 Yahoo points in all five games, Gobert should have a high floor once again in a matchup against DeAndre Jordan that should be fun to watch.

Montrezl Harrell, LAC vs. WAS ($14):Marcin Gortat is the Wizards starting center, but he's logged fewer than 19 minutes in four of five games. Harrell, on the other hand, has played at least 23 minutes in three straight games. He's certainly made the most of the added minutes, scoring at least 30.7 Yahoo points in each contest. With the Wizards likely forced to play small again with Howard out, Harrell's skill set is better suited for this matchup than Gortat's. At this cheap price, Harrell is hard to pass up.

Center to Avoid

Steven Adams, OKC vs. PHO ($25): Adams is certainly playing well with at least 38.8 Yahoo points in three of four games. The Thunder added some much needed depth up front with Nerlens Noel, but Adams is still averaging 34 minutes per contest. The reason to possibly avoid Adams on Sunday is more to do with his price than anything else. He's not significantly discounted over Gobert or even Deandre Ayton ($29), but both of them have higher upsides. If you want to pay up at center, going with Adams might not be the route to take.
