Celtics Outlast Hornets, 140-129, in Overtime Battle
The Boston Celtics defeated the Charlotte Hornets, 140-129, in overtime at Spectrum Center on Monday night.

The Celtics (2-2) came in looking to build off their first win of the season Sunday against the Rockets, but they were in for an uphill battle against an undefeated Hornets (3-1) squad on its home floor. Boston was also playing its third game in four nights but didn't look like a tired team in the first half, building a 68-66 advantage by intermission. Although Charlotte had gained a three-point edge going into the final period, the visitors managed to knot the game up at 122 on a pair of Jayson Tatum free throws with 1:11 remaining in regulation and then went on a 12-0 run in overtime to secure the hard-fought victory.

Tatum paced the Celtics with 41 points, adding eight assists, seven rebounds and one block. Jaylen Brown returned from a one-game absence to supply 30 points, nine boards, three assists, three steals and one block. Dennis Schroder collected 23 points, eight assists, six rebounds and one block. Jabari Parker turned in 13 points, five rebounds and one block. Robert Williams generated a 12-point, 16-rebound double-double that also included four assists and three blocks.

LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges co-led the Hornets with 25 points apiece, with Ball adding nine assists and five rebounds and Bridges pulling down 10 boards. Kelly Oubre furnished 19 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Gordon Hayward totaled 15 points, six boards, three assists and one steal. Jalen McDaniels contributed 13 points, while Mason Plumlee mustered a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double that also included three assists, two blocks and one steal.

The Celtics return home to host the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night, while the Hornets host the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night as well.
