FanDuel NBA: Value Plays for the Week

FanDuel NBA: Value Plays for the Week

This article is part of our FanDuel NBA series.

Every week, this article will take a look at players who are undervalued and should be in your lineup. These are players who should exceed their value in fantasy points when looking at their cost. These players could be at the minimum or near minimum of $3,500 or could be in the $7-$8,000 range. It's easy to peg players like LeBron James or Anthony Davis but the key is to find value players to plug in with them.
Point Guard

Jarrett Jack, $4,900 – With rumors swirling about a possible trade and Deron Williams battling an injury, Jack makes for a nice play. In all likelihood, any trade would return a point guard, but for now, Jack is the starter and playing in the low 30 minutes with Williams out. While the Nets don't play a fast-paced game, they run an efficient offense that often results in assists. In his first game as the starter, Jack had 16 points to go along with 10 assists and scored over 30 fantasy points. He'll lose all his value once Deron returns but will be a great value as long as Williams is sidelined.

Dennis Schroder, $5,000 – Schroder has filled in admirably for a banged-up Jeff Teague and appears to be one of the better "point guards-in-waiting" in the league. Teague returned to the lineup Tuesday night although it was off the bench. This means Schroder's run will probably be short-lived. However, this small streak of starting shows that Schroder has upside should Teague find himself on the bench for a few games.

Shooting Guard

Nick Young, $5,400 – Young won't be a player you automatically insert into your line (especially at this price), but he's going to be worth a look on certain nights. It appears, like Tuesday, the Lakers are going to rest Kobe Bryant every once in a while much like the way the Spurs operate with their veterans. Young had a decent game with 25.5 fantasy points, which is around what the floor will be for him without Kobe in the lineup. The upside is there for 30-plus fantasy points, something Young has achieved twice in his last six games.

Small Forward

James Johnson, $4,100 – Johnson, like all valuable small forwards, has the ability to fill up the stat sheet and doesn't need to score to be fantasy-worthy. His latest game at Chicago (29.8 fantasy points) speaks to that. Landry Fields has been out with a concussion and JJ has responded well to the extra minutes and playing alongside Kyle Lowry. As long as Fields is out, Johnson makes for a solid cash game play.

Power Forward

Jon Leuer, $3,600 – Leuer is in play for any game Zach Randolph sits out while dealing with a knee injury. The swelling in his knee is reportedly bad, and it sounds like an injury that could linger. With Randolph out last Sunday, the Grizzlies turned to Leuer as their starter, and he got over 30 fantasy points. Memphis then played the matchups and went bigger Monday starting Kosta Koufos and bringing in Leuer off the bench. Leuer has a nice usage rate off the bench and is a huge value considering his price tag is $100 over the minimum.

Center

Kyle O'Quinn, $4,700 – O'Quinn has been inserted into the starting lineup and seen an uptick in minutes over the last week. He's found success playing alongside Nikola Vucevic and had over 20 fantasy points in three straight games. O'Quinn had his best game of the season Tuesday night, registering over 41 fantasy points with 18 points and 11 rebounds. He can step out and hit the three (35.4 percent this season), and he's averaged over a block per game dating back to the beginning of last season. Use him while his price is deflated; it's going to go nowhere but up from here.

Alex Len, $4,000 – The Suns appear to have given up on Miles Plumlee and have put Len into the starting five. Len hasn't disappointed with fantasy games of at least 20 points over his last three games. It helps that the Suns play an up-tempo style of basketball, and Len's prowess on the defensive end gets him plenty of points from blocks and steals. This is only his second year in the league, and therefore, there's still potential for growth in his game as he gets more comfortable with the pro game.
