Yahoo DFS Basketball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

Sunday's three-game NBA slate begins at 3:30 p.m. Eastern. Read on to find out which players to target and which to avoid in this meager slate.

GUARD

Tyreke Evans, MEM vs. BKN ($29): The 2010 NBA rookie of the year has rediscovered the multifaceted effectiveness that earned him that honor, averaging 17.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. His diverse offensive skill set should cause nightmares for a Nets defense that allows the second-most points per game in the league at 114.9. It also doesn't hurt that Evans should take on additional playmaking duties with point guard Mike Conley (Achilles) sidelined.

Caris LeVert, BKN at MEM ($13):
LeVert isn't going to be the main difference-maker between winning and losing lineups, but using him should put owners on the right track. The second-year guard has provided value in a variety of ways lately, averaging 12.2 PPG, 4.4 RPG and 3.4 APG in the last five games. While the Grizzlies have been stout as usual defensively, LeVert's ability to contribute in multiple categories makes him a strong pick at this price nonetheless.

Guard to Avoid:

Justin Holiday, CHI vs. MIA ($18): Holiday has slumped recently, averaging just 15.1 fantasy points per game in his last two. He's picked up more than three rebounds only twice in the last eight games while failing to get more than three assists in any of his last six, so Holiday likely will struggle to put up fantasy points if his shot isn't falling. Miami allows the eighth-fewest points per game at just 102.5, so don't expect major offensive output from Holiday in this matchup.

FORWARD

Andrew Wiggins, MIN vs. PHO ($27): Wiggins has topped 34.0 fantasy points in four of his last five games and the score-first small forward should provide plenty of value against a Suns team that allows a league-high 115.8 points per game. He's racked up multiple steals in six of his last nine games as well, and the Suns are turning the ball over 16.6 times per game, so Wiggins has explosive potential on both ends.

Justise Winslow, MIA at CHI ($11):
The 2015 10th overall pick has averaged 20.8 fantasy points per game in his last nine, so he's been outplaying his price for a while now. Winslow should be able to maintain his momentum easily against an awful Bulls team that allows 107.3 points per game overall and 37.5 fantasy points per game to small forwards, ranking eighth-most and sixth-most in the league, respectively.

Forward to Avoid:

James Johnson, MIA at CHI ($20): Johnson's been inconsistent lately, thrice scoring less than 11.0 fantasy points in his last seven games. He's only topped 21.0 fantasy points twice and 25.0 once over that stretch, so the reward with Johnson isn't worth the risk. Given their respective ratios of price to recent effectiveness, there's little reason to pick Johnson over Winslow.

CENTER

Marc Gasol, MEM vs. BKN ($39): Gasol's been incredible in Conley's absence, averaging 19.6 PPG, 10.0 RPG and 6.8 APG en route to 46.4 fantasy points per game in five contests since the point guard went down. He's in contention to lead this slate in fantasy scoring entirely and makes for an obvious choice over the struggling Karl-Anthony Towns ($43) and an injured Hassan Whiteside (knee, $39).

Alex Len, PHO at MIN ($15):
Len offers similar upside to the top centers in this slate at a fraction of the price. The 2013 fifth-overall pick has topped 40.0 fantasy points twice in the last seven games and gets a favorable matchup. Minnesota's been quite generous to centers, as the team's 19.9 PPG and 14.3 RPG allowed to the position are both fourth most in the league.

CENTER TO AVOID

Karl-Anthony Towns, MIN vs. PHO ($43): Towns has struggled to live up to his lofty price lately, averaging just 34.2 fantasy points per game over his last five while topping out at 37.4. With a pair of similarly priced centers available in this small slate, the bang for the buck on Towns is low given his recent performance. While Phoenix's awful defense gives Towns a bit more upside, he's also at risk of sitting significant minutes if his team turns this one into a blowout early.
