Crawford's statistics from his two-year career at West Virginia jump off the page, but NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein has concerns regarding how the rookie running back's vision and decisiveness as a ball carrier will translate to the next level. "While Crawford does have the athletic traits to be more elusive, he lacks that second-level creativity to set himself apart from other runners," Zierlein said in the lead up to April's draft. Crawford excelled at breaking long runs as a senior with 15 runs of 15 yards or more, ranking 35th in the nation among backs that handled at least 50 percent of their team's carries, per Pro Football Focus. Granted, many of those plays came against suspect Big 12 defenses, but Crawford possesses sufficient power to break out of would-be arm tackles on a consistent basis. He's also well above-average in pass protection as he did not allow a sack in 2017, and only surrendered three quarterback hurries on the season. Crawford's primary competition to become the Falcons No. 3 running back comes from fourth-round pick Ito Smith, but there is a scenario in which both players make the 53-man roster, if not at least secure a spot on the practice squad.
