Beckwith (ankle) was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list Friday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The third-year linebacker's career thus continues on pause for the time being following an April 2018 car accident. Beckwith's presence would be particularly valued in a season during which the Buccaneers will undergo a transition to a 3-4 defense under new coordinator Todd Bowles, but with an uncertain timetable for any return to on-field work, he can't be counted on for any significant role in 2019 at the moment. Beckwith did manage to participate in practice on a limited basis during a three-week roster-exemption window last season after opening the campaign on the NFI list, but he was never cleared for a return to game action. Shaquil Barrett and Deone Buccannon were brought in during free agency as linebacker options to help offset Beckwith's absence and Kwon Alexander's departure to the 49ers, but Jason Pierre-Paul's neck injury, if season-ending, would naturally represent another major step back at the position.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2018
2017
Beckwith's rookie season began with an impressive training camp in which the LSU product defied the odds - he secured a starting job despite being less than a year removed from November 2016 ACL surgery. However, after compiling 41 tackles over his first five games, Beckwith averaged just under three stops per contest the rest of the way while manning a role on the strong side. His IDP outlook is nevertheless optimistic heading into 2018, considering Beckwith should be more effective with a year of NFL experience under his belt and nearly two years removed from the aforementioned injury. Furthermore, the addition of super-sized Vita Vea up front should also help open up more playmaking opportunities for all three of the Bucs' linebackers.
Beckwith fell to the third round of the 2017 draft due to a November 2016 ACL tear, but was a likely first-round selection had he not been injured. The LSU alum racked up 263 tackles (124 solo), including 24.5 for loss, in 44 games with the Tigers. He added 7.5 sacks, eight passes defensed, one pick-six, three fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles while developing a well-earned reputation as a vicious hitter. At 6-2, 243-pounds, Beckwith could realistically step into the starting lineup at strongside linebacker with an impressive training camp and preseason, given that veteran Daryl Smith isn't expected to return and unproven 2016 sixth-round pick Devante Bond, who missed his rookie season with a hamstring injury, currently sits atop the depth chart.
