Pair of eagles Sunday at Glen Abbey
July 31, 2017
Gonzales carded a two-under 70 on Sunday at the RBC Canadian Open to finish 16-under and tied for 10th.
ANALYSIS
Gonzales should have posted a top-five finish at Glen Abbey this week after carding two eagles during his final round alone, but a double bogey on the scorable par-five 18th bumped him down the leaderboard. He ranked fourth among the field in SG: Approach, but struggled with his accuracy off the tee as he hit 43 percent of the fairways in regulation. At 156th in the FedExCup standings, he'll have some work to do in order to reach the playoffs, but he'll look to maintain momentum at the upcoming Barracuda Championship.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
Gonzales has made the playoffs just once, in 2015, and he used his best career finish, T3 at the OHL Classic, to get him there. Last season, he missed 16-of-28 cuts in finishing 154th in points, and that is more of the norm for him. Making the playoffs this season would be a surprise.
He’s proven to be a quality Web.com Tour golfer, with victories in his last two full seasons. That helped get him back to the PGA Tour, which he played full-time in 2011 and 2013, with just one top 10. He’s only 31, a time when some golfers are entering their prime, but Gonzalez is probably not one of them. If he finishes in the top 200, he’ll qualify again for next year’s Web.com Tour finals.
