DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

Here's your chance to end the weekend right with some daily fantasy hockey success. There are five games Sunday, but they are divided into two separate sets of contests. The afternoon contests, which start at 12:30 PM ET, consist of Wild/Red Wings and Stars/Devils. These picks are for the evening contest, though. Good luck!

GOALIE

Matt Murray, PIT vs. PHI ($8,300): Murray is the most expensive goalie Sunday, but he's worth shelling out for. He's had a great year, posting a 2.34 GAA and a .925 save percentage, and his team scores more goals per game than anybody. The Flyers, meanwhile, have only scored 2.53 goals per game, and will also be on the second night of a back-to-back. It's worth shelling out for Murray in this matchup.

CENTER

Mark Scheifele, WPG vs. VAN ($6,500): Scheifele has been great all season, but he's been particularly good recently. He's notched 22 points in his last 16 games, and overall he has 75 points in 72 contests. Scheifele has also averaged 3:09 per game on the power play, and he's tallied 14 points with the extra man. The Canucks, who will be on the second night of a back-to-back, have allowed 2.92 goals and 31.9 shots on net per contest. While Vancouver saved Ryan Miller for this game, Miller has a 3.28 GAA and a .908 save percentage in his last 15 starts.

Bo Horvat, VAN at WPG ($4,400): Horvat has an even better matchup than Scheifele. The Jets have allowed 3.19 goals per game, second most in the NHL, and they have the 29th-ranked penalty kill. Horvat has really taken a step forward this year, as he's averaged 2.9 fantasy points per game. He's also averaged 2:01 on the power play, tallying 10 power-play points. That's not a ton, but it's enough to be enticing heading into a matchup with Winnipeg.

WING

Phil Kessel, PIT vs. PHI ($6,400): Kessel has started 41.2 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, second most among Penguins, and he's averaged 3:39 per game with the extra man. He's been dynamite on the power play, tallying 28 points in 74 games. Kessel has also notched 205 shots on goal. The Flyers have allowed 2.92 goals per game, and their penalty kill is ranked 22nd. Add in the fact they will be on the second night of a back-to-back, and Kessel has a favorable matchup.

Mathieu Perreault, WPG vs. VAN ($4,500): Perreault has started 34.7 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, which is second most on the Jets. He's also notched seven points in his last four games, including three power-play points. Overall, Perreault has put up 12 power-play points in 58 games. Vancouver, in addition to allowing 2.92 goals per game, has the 27th-ranked penalty kill.

Daniel Sedin, VAN at WPG ($4,300): Sedin has an unlucky 7.3 shooting percentage this year, but the veteran Swede is still very much an offensive-minded player. He's started 38.5 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, which is the most of any Canuck. Sedin has also averaged 3:03 per game with the extra man, tallying 13 power-play points in that time. The Jets have allowed 3.19 goals per game, and they have the 29th-ranked penalty kill, so perhaps Sedin will have better luck in this tilt.

DEFENSEMEN

Ivan Provorov, PHI at PIT ($4,400): Murray has been good for the Penguins, and he's needed to be, as Pittsburgh has allowed 32.5 shots on net per game. Provorov hasn't been super prolific offensively, but he has notched 140 shots on goal in 74 games. Meanwhile, on the other end of the ice, Provorov has blocked 152 shots. The Penguins have averaged 60.0 shot attempts per 60 minutes, which is fourth most in the NHL, so— if nothing else — Provorov should have the opportunity to get in front of a few pucks.

Mark Streit, PIT vs. PHI ($4,100): Since becoming a Penguin, Streit has been quite the power-play contributor. Five of his six points have come with the extra man, and overall he's tallied 21 shots on goal in 12 games. The Flyers, as previously mentioned, have the 22nd-ranked penalty kill. Additionally, when playing the second game of a back-to-back, Philly has allowed 3.07 goals per game. Streit also has 80 blocked shots, and the Flyers are seventh in shot attempts per 60 minutes (59.00).
