The Lions didn't tender Coe a contract for the 2018 season Wednesday after he informed the team he intended to take a year off from football, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Birkett's report adds that Coe underwent sports-hernia surgery during the offseason, but given the short-term recovery timetable associated with that procedure, it doesn't sound like that was the main reason why the defensive tackle decided to step away from the game.
