On the final day of February, we have three NHL games. You can start the work week and end the month with some DFS success. Here are some players to target, and to avoid, for your DFS lineup.
GOALIE
Jeremy Swayman, BOS at LOS ($29): Picking a goalie for Monday was tricky. The team that has scored the fewest goals per game of these six is the Canucks, and they are on the second leg of a back-to-back. They are also facing the Devils, who have some awful goaltending. I'm going with Swayman because he's been great, and the Kings are middle-of-the-pack in goals per contest. The Alaska native has a 2.04 GAA and .926 save percentage.
GOALIE TO AVOID
Jack Campbell, TOR at WAS ($27): Remember when Campbell was having one of the best seasons in the NHL? Well now he has a 2.54 GAA and .917 save percentage. Things have been falling apart for the Maple Leafs netminder. Washington has scored 3.17 goals per game, second most of any team playing Monday.
CENTER
Jack Hughes, NJD vs. VAN ($21): Oh, so this is why Hughes was the first-overall pick. Over his last 12 games he's netted 16 points. He also has six power-play points in that time. The Canucks are on the second night of a back-to-back, and they also have the league's worst penalty kill.
CENTER TO AVOID
Anze Kopitar, LOS vs. BOS ($21): Looking at Monday's games, the Kings are the only team I have any compunction about avoiding. Thus, I have to throw Kopitar in here. He's having another fine season, but he's likely facing Swayman and his 2.04 GAA and .926 save percentage. On top of that, the Bruins have only allowed 29.1 shots on net per game.
WING
Brock Boeser, VAN at NJD ($18): Boeser has tallied 15 goals, 15 assists, and put 135 shots on net in 48 games. That includes notching 13 points with the extra man. Though the Canucks are on a back-to-back, I still like him in this matchup. After all, the Devils have a 3.60 GAA.
Yegor Sharangovich, NJD vs. VAN ($18): Sharangovich has put together a six-game point streak. I like the chances of him making that seven against a Canucks team on the second leg of a back-to-back. That's especially true since Jaroslav Halak will likely be in net, and he has an .899 save percentage.
WINGS TO AVOID
Michael Bunting, TOR at WAS ($19): In an attempt to not only recommend avoiding Kings players, I'm throwing Bunting in the mix. He's having a breakout campaign on Toronto's top line, though he doesn't play much on the power play. Bunting is also not quite as prolific a shooter as some of his teammates. The Capitals have only allowed 28.8 shots on net per game, top three in the NHL, so maybe Bunting will be kept relatively in check.
Alex Iafallo, LOS vs. BOS ($15): Iafallo has 29 points in 51 games, and he plays on Los Angeles' top line. However, recently he's been cold. The 28-year-old has only one point in his last seven games. On top of that, he's facing Swayman and his 2.04 GAA and .926 save percentage.
DEFENSE
Damon Severson, NJD vs. VAN ($18): I was worried that Severson's numbers might dip after Dougie Hamilton got healthy and returned to the lineup. However, over his last seven games he has nine points, including three on the power play. Severson has 11 points with the extra man, and the Canucks have the league's worst penalty kill.
Dmitry Orlov, WAS vs. TOR ($14): Orlov has tallied 24 points in 50 games. Over his last 10 games he's notched five of those points. I mentioned that Campbell has been scuffling. Indeed, over his last 13 games he has a 3.91 GAA and .876 save percentage. Even if they put Petr Mrazek in net, he has a 2.87 GAA and .897 save percentage in his last 10 outings.
DEFENSE TO AVOID
Drew Doughty, LOS vs. BOS ($22): The same points remain true with Doughty as with his teammates. The Bruins have only given up 29.1 shots on goal per contest. Swayman has a 2.04 GAA and .926 save percentage. I'm skipping the Kings on Sunday.
Matt Grzelcyk, BOS at LOS ($15): The Kings have a bad penalty kill, but Charlie McAvoy plays so much with the extra man that Grzelcyk and the second unit don't get much power-play time. He's only averaged 1:30 per game with the extra man. Los Angeles' goalies have been a bit iffy, but the team is still in the top 10 in GAA. Why? Because the Kings have only allowed 28.3 shots on net per game, a league low.
