DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Connor Hellebuyck, WPG vs. PIT ($7,100): The Penguins enter on the second leg of a back-to-back road set and have scored just six goals through their past four games. While the defending champs are obviously still dangerous, Hellebuyck has allowed two goals or fewer in four of five starts for a .939 save percentage and 2.00 GAA. This salary opens up plenty of spending room, too.

CENTER

Mark Scheifele, WPG vs. PIT ($6,500): After recording eight points through the first seven games of the season, Scheifele has been held off the scoreboard in consecutive games. During his breakout campaign last season, he only had one point drought longer than two games. As noted this should be a favorable spot for the Jets at Bell MTS Centre.

Victor Rask, CAR vs. ANA ($3,900): A low price-flier with upside, Rask has two multi-point games this season while missing the scoresheet entirely in the other seven outings. Still, he's locked into a top offensive role and has consecutive 40-point campaigns. His game-to-game consistency is low, but with Anaheim playing its second road game in consecutive nights and still dealing with plenty of injuries, Rask's worth considering.

WING

Johnny Gaudreau, CGY vs. WAS ($7,200): With the Capitals allowing the most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes (13.0) in the league and coming off a 5-2 road win over Edmonton on Saturday, Gaudreau jumps off the page. The diminutive winger has recorded 35 goals and 94 points through his past 82 home games, and Washington will likely turn to backup Philipp Grubauer and his target-worthy .850 save percentage and 4.68 GAA on Sunday.

Rickard Rakell, ANA at CAR ($6,300): It's been a hit-or-miss start to the season for Rakell, but he's projected to skate with Ryan Getzalf and Corey Perry atop the depth chart again Sunday, so the youngster of the trio warrants a long look. Dating back to his breakout campaign in 2016-17, Rakell has an impressive 38 goals through 81 games, and he's logging career-high minutes this season (21:15 with 3:43 on the power play).

Kyle Connor, WPG vs. PIT ($4,200): A potential stack option alongside center Mark Scheifele, Connor logged 19:02 of ice time (5:41 on the power play) last time out and has collected a goal and an assist through four games for the campaign. The 20-year-old winger's role and upside are a rare find near his price range.

DEFENSE

Dustin Byfuglien, WPG vs. PIT ($5,300): The bruising defenseman has registered nine shots through his past two games but failed to mark the scoresheet in both. Often times, an uptick in shot volume is a sign of upcoming offense, and taking stab at Byfuglien at this price lessens the risk. After all, he's a cross-category contributor who's logging 24:17 of ice time per game with 3:40 on the power play.

Justin Faulk, CAR vs. ANA ($4,500): With Ryan Miller likely making his season debut. And the Ducks on the second leg of a back-to-back road set, this should prove to be a solid matchup for the Hurricanes. Faulk has just two assists all season, which game in multi-point showing Oct. 17, so this is a clear buy-low spot. He's also coming off an excellent showing with four shots and six blocked shots over 27:22 of ice time, and the 25-year-old defenseman remains locked in as the power-play quarterback on the No. 1 unit.
