Sams, a former Kansas State quarterback, announced Wednesday he will be transferring to McNeese State, this after a position switch to wide receiver during the offseason did not pan out, ESPN.com reports.

Sams spent much of last season splitting snaps with junior college transfer Jake Waters, and though losing nearly all of his playing time to Waters late in the season, ended up leading all Big 12 quarterbacks with 807 rushing yards. Sams requested a position change during the offseason, but ended up third-team on KSU's depth chart by the time spring camp came to a close.

Sams will possess top-10 upside at quarterback if he can win the starting quarterback role this year, but as of press time he was seemingly locked into a tie with junior college transfer Jake Waters. If Waters wins, he too will possess similarly huge upside for the role previously held by Collin Klein. Sams showed intoxicating upside as a runner while spelling Klein last year, taking 32 carries for 235 yards (7.3 YPC) and three touchdowns. The speedy quarterback should have his rushing touchdown over/under at 20 if he can hold off Waters, but absolutely make sure to check the status of this competition closer to your draft to gauge exactly where Sams or Waters should rank on your list of targets.
