Signed a minor league deal with the Cubs in December 2010.
Kennard struggled with Double-A Arkansas after being acquired from the Yankees for Jose Molina in July. He had a 5.12 ERA in 19.1 innings and only struck out 11 batters over that span. Put simply, Kennard doesn't have a high ceiling and will need to have some success with Arkansas and Triple-A Salt Lake before he gets a chance with the Angels. His long-term upside may be as a swingman or long reliever.
Kennard had little trouble getting a promotion to Double-A Trenton after a 3-0 start in 14 appearances for the Yankees' High-A affiliate in Tampa. At 25, he's beginning to run out of time in the New York farm system, with a rash of capable righties in front of him in the prospect pecking order. He does have a chance of panning out in a major-league bullpen if his strikeout rate continues to rise.
