Rhett Lowder Injury: Set for bullpen session

Lowder (forearm) is expected to throw and up-and-down bullpen session Saturday, MLB.com reports.

The Reds are targeting sometime in May for Lowde's return from the 15-day injured list, but Cincinnati may not have a rotation spot available for the right-hander and could end up optioning him to Triple-A Louisville. Lowder turned in a 1.17 ERA over his 30.2 innings in the big leagues late last season, but a poor 22:14 K:BB suggests he would have struggled to maintain that shiny ERA over a larger sample. Lowder missed all of spring training due to right elbow discomfort and will need some time to get stretched back out for a starting role.
