Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Marte set a new career high with 36 home runs last season, four more than he hit during the infamous juiced-ball year of 2019. He also lifted his batting average above .290 after it dipped as low as .240 in 2022. Despite making a trip to the injured list in the second half with an ankle sprain, Marte exceeded 90 runs and 90 RBI for the second time ever, finishing as a top-15 hitter in traditional fantasy formats. Once a part-time outfielder, Marte now plays second base pretty much exclusively. At 31 years old, Marte is a risk to miss time, as he's reached 150 games just twice in his career. However, his plate skills are super steady, propping up his floor. While not a burner, Marte is capable of chipping in 5-to-10 steals given his instincts and efficiency on the base paths. He should continue to bat first or second in the Arizona lineup under manager Torey Lovullo in 2025. Read Past Outlooks

Getting rest Sunday
Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Marte returned from the injured list Friday and started at second base the past two days, going 1-for-7 with a walk. The 31-year-old hasn't reported any setbacks following his one-month stay on the IL due to a hamstring strain, so his absence Sunday is most likely a pre-planned rest day. Tim Tawa will draw the start at second base in his stead.

Marte capped a productive season with an even more impressive postseason run. He posted a career-high 650 regular-season plate appearances while recording a 127 wRC+, the third highest of his career. Contact continued to be Marte's calling card, though he did log the second highest walk rate of his career. His power rebounded after a down season, but Marte's xSLG suggests he was a bit fortunate in that department. Marte swiped eight bags on 10 attempts, but he was one of the few players not to take better advantage of the new rules. For the second straight season, He lowered his strikeout rate while walking at a higher clip, helping maintain one of the top two spots in the Diamondbacks lineup, resulting in the second most runs and RBI of his career, both bettered only by his production in 2019 when Marte took advantage of the happy fun ball. Marte played almost exclusively at second base, losing outfield eligibility. Marte will have a hard time matching last season's power, but he offers a bankable floor with batting average stabilization.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could head to IL
Marte suffered a left hamstring strain against the Nationals on Friday, and manager Torey Lovullo suggested that the star infielder could be headed to the IL, according to Megan Plain of Fox 10 Phoenix.
ANALYSIS
The Diamondbacks will presumably have a better idea of how long Marte will be out as he goes through testing over the next couple of days, but losing Marte is a huge blow for the Diamondbacks, even if it's just for a few games. If Marte ends up landing on the IL, Garrett Hampson could take over as the Diamondbacks' regular second baseman. Marte is hitting .346 with a .931 OPS in 32 plate appearances to open the 2025 season.
