ANALYSIS
Everyone knew this was coming when the Vikings traded for and signed Sage Rosenfels to an extension this week. It's doubtful Frerotte will be brought in as a starter anywhere else, but his experience and ability to perform as a sub should make him a pretty attractive candidate for a No. 2 role. That's assuming he wants to keep playing, as he'll be 38 in July.

Frerotte should be pretty comfortable in the No. 2 slot at quarterback, with rookie John David Booty likely still a year away from competing for the position. Frerotte will back up Tarvaris Jackson and would see action in the not-so-unlikely scenario that Jackson either struggles or gets hurt. Frerotte could be a dependable guy for the Vikings, although his upside would be limited in terms of the quantity of fantasy numbers he could put up.
Is penciled in as the Rams #2 QB behind Marc Bulger and isn't expected to be pushed by either Ryan Fitzpatrick or Brock Berlin. Frerotte still has something left to give and with Bulger's history of injury and the top notch skill position players the Rams have (i.e. Steven Jackson, Torry Holt, Issac Bruce, Randy McMichael) Frerotte is a guy to keep your eye on if Bulger goes down for an extended period.
Frerotte will enter the 2006 season as the definite #2 Ram QB behind starter Marc Bulger. While he's certainly not capable of leading a team to the Super Bowl Frerotte still has a considerable skill package, knows Scott Linehan's system and is an undeniable upgrade over last year's #2 Jamie Martin. If Bulger does go down again like he has the last two years Frerotte is a guy capable of giving a fantasy team some decent #'s in the short term.
Frerotte has been strictly a backup for roughly half a decade now (with the exception of a brief starting stint in Cincinnati three years ago), and he’s had his moments in that role – a 462-yard, 5-TD game for the Broncos in 2000, and a 267-yard, 4-TD game for Minnesota in 2003. If there’s one thing that Frerotte has going for him, it’s the arm strength to deliver the ball accurately downfield. While the Dolphins haven’t been considered a passing team since Dan Marino’s prime, they have some nice weapons in their receiving corps from deep threat and exceptional leaper Chris Chambers to steady possession receiver Marty Booker to fast, athletic tight end, Randy McMichael. And this year’s first-round pick (No. 2 overall) Ronnie Brown is also capable of hurting teams as a receiver out of the backfield. With Nick Saban replacing Dave Wannstedt as Miami coach, the offense can only improve. It’s hard to be too high on a journeyman who could very well lose the job to A.J. Feeley in camp or shortly thereafter, but Frerotte does have a modicum of upside if things break his way.
Frerotte was strong in relief of an injured Daunte Culpepper last season, throwing for 690 yards with seven touchdowns against two interceptions in two starts and one partial game. Frerotte's strength is throwing the long ball, which fits in perfectly with the Minnesota offense as he was able to connect with Randy Moss on five touchdown passes. If anything should happen to Culpepper, Frerotte should fill in adequately in the short term, which makes him a solid reserve pick in leagues with deep rosters.
Frerotte enters the summer as the top candidate to backup Daunte Culpepper. He'll only have fantasy value if Culpepper gets hurt.
