Nguyen announced Friday he is retiring after seven seasons with the Cowboys, the San Antonio Express-News reports.

ANALYSIS
Nguyen's retirement at the age of 30 comes as no surprise. Last season, he suffered neck and knee injuries that landed him on season-ending injured reserve Nov. 28.

A tackling machine, the switch to the 3-4 shouldn't impact Nguyen's production too much -- expect his usual 100+ tackles, plus a couple of picks and sacks.

Nguyen set career highs in tackles and sacks in 2003. Bill Parcells would rather have a monster at middle linebacker rather than the tiny (by NFL standards) Nguyen, but even Parcells can't argue with results.

Nguyen missed half of 2002 due to injury. New coach Bill Parcells loves playmakers, so even though Nguyen's undersized for an MLB he should quickly find a home in Parcells' defense.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed that Nguyen (neck) is planning to retire, and will likely make an official announcement after the Senior Bowl, the Dallas Morning News reports.
