Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
After appearing in 23 MLB games in 2023, Rocchio got more extended run with Cleveland in 2024 as the team's primary shortstop. The 23-year-old looked like a glove-first player who offered a little speed on the bases but was mostly inconsistent as a hitter. Rocchio ended up finishing the year with a .614 OPS, eight home runs and 10 stolen bases in 143 games. Looking ahead, he once again projects as the team's top option at short, and on a club that values defense and solid fundamentals, Rocchio should be able to hold onto the job. He has shown flashes of more offensive promise in the minors, so there may also be some room for growth in his game as well. For the time being, Rocchio isn't the most exciting fantasy option, but the playing time should be there and he's worth keeping an eye on if his production starts to trend upward. Read Past Outlooks

Back on bench as struggles continue
Rocchio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
After he was held out of the lineup Tuesday and Wednesday, Rocchio drew starts at shortstop in each of the ensuing three contests, but he went 0-for-8 with four strikeouts in those games to bring his average down to .185 on the season. Now back on the bench Sunday, Rocchio looks like he may have to settle for a part-time role in the middle infield, as the Guardians have been prioritizing Gabriel Arias and Daniel Schneemann ahead of him.

The Guardians are one of the cheapest teams in the league, so while Rocchio doesn't project to perform like an everyday-caliber player in 2024, he may still get those opportunities. The switch-hitting shortstop has been a quality prospect dating back to an impressive pro debut as a teenager in 2018, but despite posting ISO's over .160 and slugging percentages over .425 across High-A and Double-A in 2021 and 2022, his power output has declined steeply since reaching Triple-A and the majors. It's possible he was able to get himself into more hitter's counts that allowed him to swing for the fences more against High-A and Double-A pitching and that has not carried over against pitchers with better control. Aside from limited raw power, Rocchio has a lot going for him. He is an excellent defensive infielder who had an 11.2 percent walk rate and 12.3 percent strikeout rate with 25 steals in 116 games at Triple-A. Barring an offseason acquisition of a more seasoned big-league shortstop, Rocchio could be Cleveland's starter at the position while likely hitting in the bottom third of the lineup.
