2025 Fantasy Outlook
The left-hander missed the entirety of the 2023 campaign while recovering from shoulder surgery, and he spent most of 2024 at Triple-A Nashville. Ashby started in 14 of his 25 appearances at Triple-A and struggled to an 8.04 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and 92:73 K:BB across 84 innings. He received a look in the majors despite the poor numbers and pitched well with a 2.86 ERA and 33:10 K:BB over 28.1 frames. The control difference between the majors and minors makes all of his numbers difficult to trust, but he should have a chance to earn a spot in Milwaukee's starting rotation in spring training. Ashby still has some upside but carries a lot of risk given the mostly unproven track record. Read Past Outlooks

Picks up third save
Ashby gave up a run on a hit and a walk over 1.2 innings Saturday to record his third save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Pirates. He struck out two.
Analysis
With Trevor Megill (elbow) on the shelf and Abner Uribe having worked three of the first five days in September, Ashby was leaned on to close things out after entering the game with the tying run on deck and one out in the eighth inning. The save was Ashby's first since July 29, but he's been a fairly reliable high-leverage arm for the Brewers since the beginning of August, posting a 2.62 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB over his last 24 innings. Uribe should continue to be the primary ninth-inning option while Megill is on the IL, and even in situations that might call for a left-hander to get the save, Jared Koenig -- who got the final outs Wednesday and also pitched Friday -- seems to be ahead of Ashby in the pecking order.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
2022
Ashby began experiencing left shoulder discomfort in August of 2022, exactly four weeks after he signed a five-year, $20.5 million pre-arbitration contract extension with the Brewers. That shoulder issue began rearing its ugly head again in the spring of 2023, eventually leading to April 7 season-ending surgery. He was able to fit in a minor-league rehab assignment at the tail end of the 2023 campaign but surrendered 14 runs -- 12 earned -- on seven hits and 14 walks over seven innings (seven appearances) between High-A Wisconsin, Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville. Ashby is expected to be ready for the 2024 major-league season and still presumably possess a nasty slider-changeup combo to pair with his mid-90s fastball, but it'll take a lot of trust to reach for him in any sort of fantasy setting this spring.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Joining MLB roster?
Ashby has yet to officially be added to the MLB roster but is with the team in Philadelphia and has a locker in the Brewers clubhouse, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Analysis
The left-hander is likely up with the Brewers as starting depth since Robert Gasser is dealing with an elbow issue. Ashby gave up four earned runs over 3.2 frames in his lone outing of the season for Milwaukee, and he has a 6.80 ERA over 43.2 innings at Triple-A Nashville. He struggled early on in 2024 in his return from shoulder surgery but has given up just two runs in his last two starts at Triple-A.
