Houck (elbow) is expected to begin a minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Houck threw a couple bullpen sessions this week and looks to be trending in the right direction again after he was initially placed on the shelf May 14 due to a right flexor pronator strain. The right-hander had been hit hard prior to being deactivated, going 0-3 with an 8.04 ERA in 43.2 innings through his first nine starts of the season. Houck will likely need to complete multiple outings in the minors before making his return from the IL, and his performance during the assignment may play a part in determining whether he returns as a starter or reliever.
