Returns to organization
Acosta has reported to the Red Sox Dominican Academy and is working out with other international players, Chris Hatfield of SoxProspects reports.
ANALYSIS
The Red Sox were never too forthcoming when they placed Acosta on the restricted list last June, but at the time, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reported the pitcher left extended spring training without permission. He was one of the top international free agents when signed in 2014, but obviously his career has stalled after last season's suspension.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Acosta is an 18-year-old who signed as an international free agent in July 2014, receiving a $1.5M signing bonus. He has a low-90s fastball with good movement and a good changeup he'll throw at any time. His third pitch is a curveball that needs work. Acosta made nine starts in the DSL in 2015, finishing with a 4.28 ERA and a 22-to-5 K-to-BB rate in 33.2 innings. He also spent a month on the DL due to an ankle injury. We'd like to see better results out of a highly regarded prospect in the DSL, but he didn't allow a homer and it's early in his development. We'll see him stateside in Lowell or the GCL in 2016.
