Analysis
Almonte made 13 appearances for Double-A Erie during the month of May, posting a 1-1 record, 2.77 ERA and 11 saves. He struck out 14 batters and limited the opposition to a .174 batting average.

The 29-year-old Almonte spent all of last season closing games for Double-A Erie. He racked up 33 saves but struggled a bit with the longball. He'll likely spend most, if not all, of next season in the minors.
Almonte signed with Boston in November after being placed on waivers by the Mets. Almonte was once thought of as a potential closer following a sparkling season in 2002 for the White Sox at Charlotte (Triple-A) but struggled in 2003 with the White Sox as well as with the Mets following his inclusion in the Roberto Alomar deal. Almonte is no longer a closer candidate and will have to fight to make the Red Sox bullpen.
The 25-year old put up some good numbers out of the bullpen in Triple-A, including 26 saves, but will be in a dogfight in the spring to win a job with the White Sox. Even if he does make the club, he won't be very high in the potential closer pecking order. In fantasy terms, he's just another arm, neither good nor bad.
