The Indians had high hopes for both Drennen and Trevor Crowe heading into the season and both disappointed. Drennen didn't have quite the flame out that Crowe had and he's certainly got youth on his side as he spent most of the season as a 20-year-old. His overall line of .254/.336/.391 at High-A was marred by a complete inability to handle southpaws (.153/.240/.241 in 137 at-bats) as he did show some promise against right-handers (.292/.372/.448). He's got a decent eye at the plate so if he can cut down on the strikeouts and learn to handle southpaws, he could make some strides in 2008.
Still young, Drennen is a .793 OPS guy in the minors and totally fits the Moneyball mode. He switched to catcher when he got to High-A Kinston last year and his production slumped a bit. If he can figure how to multi-task behind and in front of the plate, a Double-A callup is not out of the question for Drennen.
Hit .440 as a senior at Rancho Bernardo HS in San Diego. Scouts have found Drennen to be extremely strong and a pure hitter. He's seen to be ordinary in other parts of his game, but certainly has time and youth to work on it.

Drennen dislocated his left thumb while playing for Low-A Lake County. He was hitting .333/.412./.450 before the injury. "We were fortunate that it wasn't more severe than it is," Indians farm director John Farrell told the team's official web site. "He'll return to his hit program [Thursday] and is already involved in his throwing program."
