Williams is three years removed from a near-fatal motorcycle accident that left him with permanent nerve damage to his left lower leg. The Nets have signed him to a contract, giving the once promising guard another chance to reach the potential he had coming out of Duke. In his one year in the league, Williams averaged 9.5 ppg and 4.7 apg for the Bulls, who selected him second overall in the 2002 NBA Draft. It is unlikely that Williams will ever regain the lateral quickness and burst that made him a college superstar, but he has never lost the court sense and competitiveness from years past. Look for Williams to be third on the point guard depth chart once the season starts.
