Beaubois officially inked a two-year contract Friday with Saski Baskonia of Spain, Sportando reports.
ANALYSIS
The Mavericks were interested in bringing Beaubois aboard for training camp, but the former first-round draft pick decided the guaranteed contract he was offered from Baskonia was too good to pass up. At just 28 years old, Beaubois could still conceivably return to the NBA, but interest will probably wane if he ends up fulfilling the two-year commitment to Baskonia.

For the first time since his rookie season, Beaubois enters training camp healthy and ready to contribute. Injuries have stunted the potential he flashed early on, but coach Rick Carlisle is confident the fourth-year pro will put it all together this season. However, it’s hard to imagine Roddy B. being highly effective with Darren Collison and OJ Mayo now in Dallas.
Roddy B failed to recapture the magic that made him a fan-favorite his rookie season. He missed the team’s first 54 games and was largely ineffective in his 28 games played. An injury in the season finale kept him out throughout the playoffs and a second surgery was required in the offseason. He remains a big injury-risk but could be a steal if he can rediscover his offensive game.
A relative unknown going into last season, Beaubois exploded onto the scene last year, capped by a 40-point effort against the Warriors in which he hit nine three-pointers. Despite that impressive performance, coach Rick Carlisle failed to provide him with consistent minutes, limiting his potential. Carlisle seems to have changed course and has Roddy B. penciled in as the starting shooting guard once he returns from a broken foot that required surgery. Beaubois is expected back in late October and could provide opportunistic owners with a much-needed boost in points and threes.
A draft-day trade brought the French point guard to Dallas and with the speed and ability to get to the rim he showed in Summer League the Tony Parker comparisons have already begun. However expect Beaubois to spend more time learning from Jason Kidd then contributing on the court.
