Rodgers was selected by the Royals with their third-round pick (100th overall) during the 2012 MLB First Year Player Draft.
The 18-year old Rodgers was a senior at Parkview Baptist School and had already signed to play college ball at Auburn. However, he opted to sign with the Royals for a $700,00 bonus which was $225,000 over slot. "We've been on him for about two years," scouting director Lonnie Goldberg said. "We think we're getting another young lefty in our system who is polished. He's got a breaking ball. He's got good command. He's got a good delivery and easy arm action."
