The Celtics announced Thursday that Porzingis (foot) recently underwent successful surgery to repair a torn retinaculum and dislocated posterior tibialis tendon and is expected to return to play in 5-to-6 months,
Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSISPorzingis dealt with the lower left leg injury during the playoffs, and offseason surgery always seemed to be a likely outcome. Now that the details of his surgery have been confirmed, Porzingis will likely be forced to miss at least the first month of the season, given the timeline provided by the Celtics. A firmer target date for Porzingis' 2024-25 debut should come into focus once he resumes on-court activity, but his absence to begin the season will force the Celtics to rely more heavily on
Al Horford as their starting center.
