Cato was released by Montreal on Monday, Gary Lawless of TSN reports.
ANALYSIS
Cato inked a two-year contract out of college at Marshall University, but the team declined to pick up the third-year option on the signal-caller. While he did improve slightly at the position in his second season, he threw just eight touchdown passes over 11 games. The team signed Darian Durant and has already named him the starter heading into next season and second-year quarterback Vernon Adams will likely serve as the team's top backup after taking the starting role for the last game of the 2016 season. Cato is now free to sign with another team.
