Ankle
October 21, 2012
Ball briefly left Saturday's win over Minnesota with a slight ankle injury after a touchdown-saving tackle, but returned in the fourth quarter, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. "Really nothing's sprained or anything at all," he said.
ANALYSIS
Ball had 24 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns in the win, but the sore ankle gave James White an opportunity to carry the ball more and he responded with 15 carries for 175 yards.

2010
Ball's numbers could decline drastically in 2012. His starting center, right guard and right tackle are gone, as is quarterback Russell Wilson, who in his lone season as a Badger may have been the most effective player Wisconsin has ever seen. The result is a lot more attention from defenses as Wisconsin breaks in a new, less effective quarterback and worse blocking against those additional defenders. Still, after running for 1,923 yards (6.3 YPC) and 33 touchdowns and catching 24 passes for 306 yards and six more scores, Ball can afford to lose a lot of productivity and still come out as the nation's top fantasy runner.
James White is still around and is a more talented runner than Ball, but Ball is significantly bigger and will likely get a bigger workload as a result. Also, Ball is a better pass catcher. Either way, with John Clay out of town there’s enough room in the Wisconsin offense for both Ball and White to approach 1,000 yards and double-digit touchdowns. The one worry with Ball is that White appears to be a rare talent at running back, and he might catch fire to the point that Wisconsin has no choice but to feed him carries at Ball’s expense for long stretches.
Although the Wisconsin coaching staff originally planned on redshirting Ball last season, his quickness and upside forced them to give him playing time as true freshman. Despite not playing until the team’s fifth game, he recorded 391 yards and four touchdowns. This season he is expected to be Clay’s top backup, as well as being utilized for his excellent receiving skills out of the backfield.
