Special teams could be his ticket onto the team, and into fantasy obscurity. If he makes the roster, he'll be no more than the No. 4 or 5 option at receiver.
With the expected emergence of Brandon Marshall at No. 2 receiver, Kircus' production stands to decrease from his already miniscule totals last season. His offseason arrest for alleged assault doesn't help matters either, though a polygraph test saved his job with the Broncos. The bottom line: Kircus will have absolutely no fantasy value as long as veterans Rod Smith and Brandon Stokley are healthy for the season. But that's far from a guarantee, and if they're not ready, Kircus' speed and athleticism could make him a downfield weapon for Jay Cutler.
Kircus, who had previously been cut by the Lions four times, and spent the 2005 season working at Subway, entered camp with hopes of making the roster. After an outstanding preseason, however, Kircus is ready to serve as either the Broncos third or fourth receiver. He may not get a lot of receptions, but he was a big-play threat all preseason long, and could post a decent amount of touchdowns if he lands the No. 3 spot.
Kircus will compete for the fifth wide receiver spot with Scottie Vines. Unless one of the big boys goes down with an injury, however, Kircus will have little impact in fantasy.
Kirkus was the 175th overall pick in the 2003 NFL draft. He has a shot to make the team as a fifth or sixth WR, but won't sniff the playing field except for special teams.
