2025 Fantasy Outlook
Rantanen had an eventful season that involved him being traded twice and eventually inking an eight-year, $96 million contract with Dallas, so while his regular-season totals of 32 goals and 88 points across 82 outings represented his lowest offensive outputs since the shortened 2020-21 campaign, fantasy managers shouldn’t judge him harshly for it. His brief stint in Carolina (six points in 13 outings) was particularly rough, and there wasn’t much time left in the regular season to settle in with Dallas after being dealt March 7. Instead, his playoff output of nine goals and 22 points in 18 appearances is probably more indicative of the value he’ll bring to the Stars going forward. In other words, don’t be surprised if he flirts with the 40-goal and 100-point marks in 2025-26, which is in line with what he accomplished in 2023-24 (42 goals, 104 points). Read Past Outlooks

Nets power-play marker
Rantanen scored a power-play goal on two shots and added three hits in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Canucks.
ANALYSIS
Rantanen's season-opening point streak is up to four games (two goals, four assists). He's earned three of those six points on the power play. The 28-year-old winger has been a major part of the Stars' strong performance on offense to begin the year, and he should continue to be a consistent contributor throughout the campaign. He's added 12 shots on net, four hits, four PIM and a plus-2 rating.

While understandably overshadowed by linemate Nathan MacKinnon, Rantanen has comfortably established himself as a star in his own right. He's recorded at least 30 goals in five of his past six campaigns and has averaged well over a point per game (579 points in 486 contests) across his last seven campaigns. Rantanen continued that success in 2023-24, supplying 42 goals and 104 points in 80 outings. He was especially good with the man advantage, tying for sixth in the league with 40 power-play points. Rantanen is entering the final campaign of his six-year, $55.5 million contract, and at the time of writing, it's not clear if he'll ink an extension before the season opener. This being a contract year might provide the 27-year-old with a little extra motivation, but he's a great candidate to challenge for the 40-goal and 100-point milestones regardless of the circumstances.

Head coach Glen Gulutzan said Friday that the Stars are looking to play Rantanen on both power-play units this year, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Rantanen spent time with Colorado, Carolina and Dallas last year, and he's poised for a significant role during his first full season with the Stars after signing an eight-year, $96 million extension with the team. He's averaged 4:00 of power-play ice time over the past eight seasons, and his usage with the man advantage is unlikely to decrease during the 2025-26 campaign.
