Hits free agency
The Rangers didn't extend a qualifying offer to Kaliyev (upper body) on Monday, making him an unrestricted free agent, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
After topping 50 appearances in each of his final three full seasons with the Kings, Kaliyev was hampered by injuries last year, appearing in just 14 games and recording three goals, an assist, seven hits, two blocked shots and two PIM while averaging 11:13 of ice time. He missed the end of the 2024-25 campaign due to an upper-body injury, and it's unclear whether he'll be ready for the start of training camp this fall.

2022
For the first time in his three-year career, Kaliyev failed to reach the 20-point threshold. He saw action in just 51 regular-season games last year - though that didn't stop him from reaching that mark back in 2022-23 when he played in 56 contests. Prior to a collarbone injury, there was a decent chance the hard-shooting winger would see minutes with the No. 2 power-play unit, despite filling a fourth-line role. Instead, he will face an uphill battle to earn that job after being ruled out indefinitely to start the season.
