Richmond is a decent defender. He skates well, passes well and plays a smart game. But at 26, he has never really stuck in the NHL. Time is running out for Richmond; it looks like he's little more than a journeyman minor leaguer.
Acquired by the Pens from the Chicago organization over the summer, Richmond will provide depth for the team at the Wilkes-Barre level. Richmond has collected three assists in 49 NHL games over parts of three seasons.
Richmond made the Hawks to start the 2007-08 season. The Hawks though want him to play left wing, but he has played defense for most of his career.
Was battling for the final defensive spot on the Hawks in training camp. Played in 20 games last season for both the Hurricanes and the Hawks. Scored eight goals and 19 assists in the minors between Lowell and Norfolk.
The Hurricanes thought enough of Richmond to give him a three-year contract before he played his first game in the system (he was released to his junior team after being drafted in 2003). At 21, he has a lot of developing to do yet, and will not be a fantasy force this season, although his long-term outlook is promising.
